St. Kitts is a volcanic island (the volcano is now extinct so you won't need to worry about it erupting!) as is evident in its dramatic mountains scenery, lush tropical vegetation and its somewhat unpredictable geologic history. Indeed in the tongue of St. Kitts original Carib inhabitants, the island was known as Liamuiga which roughly translates to mean 'fertile land' in appreciation of the island productive volcanic soil.
